The soft edge is judgment only when it is chosen, not when it is a place to hide.
There is a soft edge that is leadership, and a soft edge that is avoidance.
They can look identical from the outside.

The Play
Give real support when support is what the moment needs.
The soft edge is not the absence of the sharp one. It is a deliberate choice. Room for a person who is stretched. A mistake met with a conversation, not a correction. Trust given space to grow. The soft edge is a problem only when it is a default, used to avoid the hard thing. Chosen on purpose, for a moment that needs it, it is judgment.
Strong and weak
Strong: you give support cleanly, with no edge the person did not need. Weak: your support is really avoidance, or it arrives with a quiet cut attached. Watch for the second one. A sigh, a clipped tone, a small sharp remark folded into the help. Support with an edge is not support.
