Consistency: The Same Leader on an Ordinary Thursday
Culture is not built by speeches. It is built by what you repeat when no one is watching.
Culture is not built by speeches. It is built by what you do on an ordinary Thursday, again and again.
This is the sixth and final element of The Plate. If the diagnostic pointed you here, this is your work.
The behavior
Be the same leader every day, to everyone, in word and in deed.
Daily behavior builds culture, not speeches. The research on trust is blunt about this. Consistency is what tells people a leader is dependable.
Words that match actions. Commitments that close. A standard that does not move with the audience or the day.
Strong and weak
Strong: people can predict you, your word closes, the standard holds on a hard Thursday.
Weak: words and follow-through drift apart, standards move with who is watching.
A team spends enormous energy predicting an inconsistent leader. A consistent leader gives them that energy back.
